University of Wales

The University of Wales, which was founded by Royal Charter in 1893, is a large and distinctive federal university comprising ten member institutions, whose activities it exists to support and which are closely involved in its governance.

The university is the degree-awarding authority for its member institutions and also for around 70 other higher education institutions both within the UK and overseas, with which it also enjoys close links. Annually, it awards almost 15,000 initial degrees and more than 4,000 higher degrees, making it the second largest degree awarding body in the UK. Almost the full range of subjects is covered in its diverse range of institutions. Together, the member institutions of the University of Wales and its validated schemes of study result in a thriving population of nearly 90,000 from all over the world.

DBA Overview

This modern DBA is designed to advance the professional development of senior practicing managers and other professionals in the field of business and management. The DBA focuses on contemporary business issues, to develop high-calibre, well-rounded professionals with specialised knowledge and managerial competencies. It is expected that candidates will contribute to the development and synthesis of new knowledge concerning the theory and practice of business administration, and on graduation will be able to perform as professional managers, management consultants in a variety of international, regional, national and organisational environments; mentor in the practice and research of business administration; leaders in the knowledge and theory of business administration; and role models for the practice of business administration.
 
Attendance Options

The programme is designed to provide an opportunity for students to obtain a DBA by means of independent study supported by online distance learning resources and academic support. Meetings with supervisors will normally be online through use of video/audio technology with the option for face-to-face meetings at appropriate times throughout the lengthy study process.
 
The DBA can be completed over a minimum of 4 years and maximum of 7 years of study.
 
Admission Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration degree, or a management based Masters level qualification, from a recognised institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years proven professional work experience with a particular involvement in management, management consultancy, management teaching, management training, or management research;
  • Proof of written and oral proficiency in English achieved through either completion of a degree taught and examined in the English language, and/or attainment of a valid IELTS score of a minimum overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.

Please note: Candidates must in their prior study be able to demonstrate both an understanding of academic issues of management and the ability to undertake postgraduate work. The actual degree presented must be management based and should include a dissertation. Candidates with low grades are unlikely to be accepted.
